"Keep it positive..."

Let's talk about attitude and how we approach life. I'm not talking about ::dramatic flips hair:: that kind of attitude, but more so how we take on the challenges in front of us and our feelings towards them. Let's start with an example:

Say you wake up and stub your toe when you get out of bed. You can scream (because let's be honest here, that shit hurts) and then say, "Oh great, it's going to be one of THOSE days," and you let every little thing that happens for the remainder of the day affect your mood. After you stub your toe, you drop something on the floor, burn your breakfast, miss the bus, etc etc etc. Every little thing on its own is not a big deal but letting each one get to you and add onto the previous leads to, "Oh man this day was terrible!" while you dive head first into a beer at the end of the day.

But what if we didn't do that? What if we limped off the stubbed toe and forgot about it? Would that change the other little things that happened? We stub our toe and don't let it bother us so our approach to the day is different. We see things differently because we didn't let the one little thing that started it all really get to us.

Think of it this way... I saw a cartoon picture once (yes I looked but cannot manage it find it) that showed 2 people sitting on the same bus (maybe it was a train?) but looking out of opposite sides. One of them had a view of happy things while the other was seeing sad things. They were traveling down the same road by the same means, but had completely different views. This is how we can choose to approach each day and, by and large, life.

Waking up in the morning and choosing to be positive and let the little things roll of our backs can lead to a good day. Now obviously bad things happen and I'm not talking about the really bad things in life. It's the little ones... the paper cuts of life if you will... that don't need to ruin the whole day.

This morning I woke up and put on a shirt that I hoped would bring me some good karma. I listened to positive music on my commute and just tried to approach the day with a different outlook. What happened? I heard back from a potential job that I interviewed with a month ago! Something I thought was long gone has now made its way back. I'm not saying that the positive attitude brought it along, but putting positivity and good vibes into the universe will make you more open to the good things that can come your way.

How do you approach each day? Do you let the little things get to you? Do you let yesterday's problems become today's issues? Or do you try to start each day brand new? Everyone's approach to life is different and everyone is on their own journey, but if we can help each other see things just a little different, the changes that can happen might be exactly what we need.
